a house for an ornithologist

The small house is located in wide nature close to bird breeding places. To the south and east is the coast of the sea, to the north is a large lake. Here a bird researcher lives and researches in complete seclusion and harmony with nature. Both her autonomous way of life and her profession are reflected in her home. .
The house is a timber frame construction insulated with sheep's wool. The thatched roof is covered with reeds that grow by the lake. The floor plan, including furniture, is on an axial grid of 60 cm. The fade facing the coast is made of glass so that the migratory birds can be observed as they approach the resting place.
The upper edge of the floor is one metre deep in the earth. This allows the researcher to stand upright while being at eye level with the nesting birds on the lake. On the lake side, the wooden facade has small windows that are placed at different heights and can be closed by shutters. This way, the birds on the lake are not disturbed by the observation.
